Obama Congratulates Lynx On WNBA Title
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minnesota Lynx, who recently won the WNBA championship, got a special congratulatory phone call on Thursday from the nation's Capitol.
President Barack Obama called Minnesota Lynx Coach Cheryl Reeve to congratulate her and the Lynx on winning the WNBA title.
Obama told Reeve he is very proud of the way the Lynx played this season and of all the hard work that led to the team's first WNBA title. It's also Minnesota's first professional sports title since the Minnesota Twins won the World Series in 1991.
Obama also told Reeve he looks forward to greeting the team in person at the White House, a tradition for all professional sports teams who win championships.
The Lynx defeated the Atlanta Dream in the best-of-five championship series with a three-game sweep.
