Number Of Same-Sex Couples Up 66 Percent In Wis.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- New census figures show the number of same-sex couples in Wisconsin has grown nearly 66 percent in the last decade.
Wisconsin ranks 11th in the rate of growth among 29 states for which the census data has been released. Each of the 29 states showed an increase in same-gender couples. Demographers say that can probably be attributed to a growing willingness to report.
Dane County had the highest rate of same-sex couples with nearly 12 out of every 1,000 households. In Madison, 16 of every 1,000 households have same-gender couples.
The State Journal says an analysis of census figures by the Williams Institute at UCLA shows 18 percent of the state's same-sex couples had at least one child.
