NRC Sets Public Meeting On Prairie Island Problems
RED WING, Minn. (AP) -- The Nuclear Regulatory Commission wants to find out what Xcel Energy is doing to resolve staff performance problems at the Prairie Island plant near Red Wing.
The agency has scheduled a public meeting next Tuesday at the Red Wing Public Library.
Xcel Energy will have a chance to tell the agency and the public what's being done to address performance problems at the nuclear plant.
The NRC says staff performance at Prairie Island is a "cross-cutting issue," meaning it cuts across different areas of plant operation. The agency says it expects such problems to be corrected.
Prairie Island site vice president Mark Schimmel says Xcel Energy is committed to operating its nuclear plants safely and has been working to resolve the issues.
