Northstar Rail Service May Resume Tuesday
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Northstar rail service will resume operations on Tuesday, days after a freight train derailment stalled operations over the weekend.
The Northstar commuter rail between Big Lake and Minneapolis has been out of service since a train derailed near the Fridley Station around 7 a.m. Saturday.
Those using the Northstar rail should expect delays, officials say, as the freight train volumes slowly return to normal levels on the track that's shared with Northstar trains.
If the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway is unable to complete all repairs on the track overnight, Metro Transit may ask Northstar commuters to transfer to replacement buses from the Coon Rapids/Riverdale Station to the Target Field Station on Tuesday morning.
The regularly scheduled Northstar rail service from Target Field to Big Lake is expected for Tuesday afternoon.
The Fridley Station remains closed for morning and afternoon commuter trips but should be open in time for the special Northstar Twins train for folks heading to the 7:10 p.m. game at Target Field.
