North Dakota Beats St. Cloud St. 3-2
ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) — Corban Knight scored two goals and assisted on another as North Dakota beat St. Cloud State 3-2 to give coach Dave Hakstol his 200th coaching win.
St. Cloud State (10-12-4, 7-8-3), which denied Hakstol the milestone on Friday with a 3-1 win, had the potential tying goal waved off with 31 seconds left.
"A night like this brings in to focus the small role that I play," Hakstol said. "We had several guys less than 100 percent in the lineup who played their tails off."
Brock Nelson's 17th goal of season at 2:50 of the second period was the game-winner for North Dakota (13-10-2, 9-9-0), which had only one power play chance.
The Huskies' David Eddy scored the game's final goal at 14:14 of the second period. Eddy also assisted on a goal and teammate Andrew Prochno added a goal and an assist.
North Dakota goalie Aaron Dell had 28 saves and St. Cloud State's Ryan Faragher had 33 stops. Dell had seven saves to Fargaher's 13 in the final period.
"We had some guys step up and do their part," Hakstol said. "There was a much different tone tonight."
St. Cloud State was 0-for-4 on the power play.
Hakstol said the split was important for North Dakota.
"The process feels like one step back, one step forward," Hakstol said. "Getting a split on the road was absolutely critical."
