North Dakota Beats Bemidji St. 4-2
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Brothers Mark and Mitch MacMillan combined for three goals as North Dakota beat Bemidji State 4-2 on Friday and moved into second place in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
Mark MacMillan had two goals and an assist and Mitch added a goal and an assist. With the win, North Dakota took over sole possession of second place in the WCHA with 32 points. St. Cloud State leads the league with 35 points.
Bemidji State's Cory Ward opened the scoring at 5:39 of the second period. But Mark MacMillan tied it 15 seconds later.
"He answered the bell right away after we went down 1-0," North Dakota Dave Hakstol said. "To get that one real quick was important."
Mitch MacMillan, Joe Gleason and Mark MacMillan scored in the third period for North Dakota (18-9-6, 13-6-6), which outshot the Beavers 28-19. North Dakota goalie Clarke Saunders made 17 stops.
Radoslav Illo scored late in the third period for Bemidji State (6-18-7, 5-14-6). Goalie Andrew Walsh made 24 stops.
North Dakota went from a third-place tie to alone in second place in the WCHA with three games to play.
"We just have to take care of ourselves," Hakstol said. "I'm not going to start standings watching now. I haven't all year."
