Native Lives Matter Gather At Hennepin Co. Gov't Center
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Protesters of the Dakota Access pipeline -- and Hennepin County's decision to send resources to the North Dakota protest -- are gathering at the county's government center early Tuesday afternoon.
Event organizers say the gathering is taking place on the 24th floor at 1 p.m. for a board meeting of Hennepin County Commissioners.
"Hennepin County and Sheriff Stanek need to be held accountable for HC deputies being sent to brutalize indigenous people at Standing Rock," the event states. "Bring signs to demand that Hennepin County & Stanek not resend any more boots on the ground to Standing Rock and instead support the people of the Oceti Sakowin and allies who are protecting Sacred Water, Mother Earth, and Sacred Lands for us all!"
On Tuesday, the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office said the deputies that were sent out to the Dakota Access pipeline protest in North Dakota to help with security will now be coming back.
Sheriff Rich Stanek says 30 of his deputies have fulfilled their duties under the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, a national system for sharing personnel during a state of emergency.
