No Traffic Deaths Reported Over Memorial Day Weekend
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The numbers are still preliminary, but the Minnesota State Patrol confirmed Wednesday that there were no fatal traffic crashes over the Memorial Day weekend.
It would be the first fatality-free Memorial Day weekend since those records began being kept in 1975.
"It's obviously something we're very pleased about," said State Patrol Lieutenant Eric Roeske. "That was our goal going into the holiday weekend."
Roeske said driver education continues to be reflected in declining fatality numbers. But he also said high gas prices and lousy weather may have kept many people home.
Even though it's a good start to the summer travel season, Roeske said there is still concern.
"It's important to remember we're entering the most deadly time of the year."
