No Charges In Weekend Stabbing Death
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Hennepin County Attorney's Office has decided against filing charges in the stabbing death of a 22-year-old man, after video at the scene showed reason for self-defense.
Justin Jackson, of Minneapolis, was stabbed just after 7 p.m. Friday on the 3700 block of Chicago Avenue South. Police arrested James Suttles near the scene of the stabbing, and he was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment of a head injury.
Suttles was released Monday, without charges, after an investigation revealed he acted in self-defense.
Video from where the incident took place shows Suttles sitting at the bus stop when he was suddenly attacked by several men, including Jackson. The video shows the men hitting Suttles several times while they went through his pockets. Suttles manages to get away and run across the street, but Jackson and the other men chase after him.
Suttles then used a knife to protect himself, allegedly stabbing Jackson.
Police say Jackson was a confirmed member of the Bloods gang and had a previous conviction for aggravated robbery. He was charged in early July for receiving stolen property and fleeing a police officer. His next hearing was scheduled for Aug. 29.
Authorities will continue to investigate this case. Other charges may be possible.
