Nicollet Mall Shut Down Over Water Main Break
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Part of Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis was shut down Wednesday afternoon after a water main break.
A number of fire crews and police officers responded to the scene of the break, which was located approximately at 10th Street South and Nicollet.
The break happened near construction work in the building that used to house Let It Be Records. A spokesperson for the City of Minneapolis tweeted the issue stemmed from "a water service line issue at a development near 10th and Nicollet."
An officer told WCCO-TV that crews closed off the street over concerns that the water could compromise the street and potentially cause a collapse.
As of 2:15 p.m., there was reportedly water coming into the basements of the buildings adjacent to the corner of 10th and Nicollet. By some reports, there was 3 feet of water in some basements.
The City of Minneapolis said crews were working with a building manager to fix the issue. Some buildings nearby were without water service.
