MINNEAPOLIS — The fog clears out on New Year's Eve as cooler air moves in, with light snow possible in the Twin Cities.

If you're going out on Tuesday night, expect temperatures in the lower 20s. Whether you're out and about or at home, there's a chance the northern lights will be visible across much of Minnesota Tuesday night, but cloud cover will likely nullify the magic.

Wednesday's high will top out in the low 20s with cloudy skies. The metro will have some quiet mid-week weather, with high pressure bringing drier conditions and colder temperatures. The upshot is we'll see brighter skies on Thursday and Friday.

The sun returns Friday and into the weekend, when highs will drop to the teens with lows in the single digits and colder.

A potential system may bring some light snow over the weekend, though significant accumulation is unlikely.
