New Women's Health Coverage Starts Thursday
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Starting Thursday, the Affordable Care Act requires insurance companies to offer millions of women eight new health care prevention services, at no cost.
Those services include the controversial contraception mandate.
Most private insurance companies will have to cover screenings for gestational diabetes. Other services include annual "well" visits for women, screening and counseling for domestic violence, contraception and breastfeeding counseling and supplies.
HPV Testing, counseling for STDs and HIV screening and counseling is also covered. Some religious groups and churches are exempt.
The new regulations kick in when a woman's insurance plan is renewed.
