New Ulm Building Berm Against Minnesota River
NEW ULM, Minn. (AP) -- New Ulm is building a berm to protect itself against the Minnesota River.
Tony Berdan of M R Paving told the New Ulm Journal rain might delay the work, but he expects the berm near downtown on South Front and South Valley streets to be finished by Thursday.
New Ulm police closed Cottonwood Street on Monday due to flooding on the Cottonwood River, and the Cottonwood River has covered a campground to the west in Springfield.
Elsewhere in south-central Minnesota, one of two northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 169 between St. Peter and Le Sueur has been restricted to one lane for berm-building.
The Journal says the Treaty Site History Center, on the north edge of St. Peter, has put out a call for sandbaggers for Thursday.
