New Renderings Show Concepts For Downtown East Commons

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- New concept renderings show what's planned for the 4-and-a-half acre site adjacent to the new Vikings stadium in downtown Minneapolis.

Downtown East Commons will also be right next to new office and residential buildings and Metro Transit's light rail line.

The City of Minneapolis presented the designs at a public meeting Wednesday night at the Minneapolis Central Library, in partnership with Hargreaves Associates.

"We are very pleased to present a preliminary design for the Commons that captures the essence of all the great input we've received and that will create a distinctive urban park - compelling, memorable, a destination for all, and an open space amenity for generations to come," Hargreaves Associates president Mary Margaret Jones said.

Jones joined Jason DeRusha and Kylie Bearse on WCCO Mid-Morning to discuss some of the design's highlights, including an area for the downtown farmers market, gardens, fountains and a reflecting pool, and children's play areas.
