New Outlet Mall Opens In Eagan Near MOA
EAGAN, Minn. (WCCO) – There's a new place to shop in the Twin Cities.
Thursday the city of Eagan is celebrating the grand opening of Twin Cities Premium Outlets.
Nothing says happiness like a new outlet mall.
What's interesting about this place is its location; it's less than five minutes from Mall of America.
However, it's distinctively different.
More than 100 stores make up this outlet and all are selling high-end fashion, but at a savings of 25 to 65 percent every day.
Within the first hour of its opening, some shoppers already had their hands full.
Nico Barts will be sporting some new Nikes when he starts high school this fall.
Shoes that were on sale for less than half price.
Nico's dad bought 21 pairs of sneakers for their extended family at the Nike outlet store in Eagan.
WCCO also caught up with Kim Shehan leaving the Coach store with a collection of items.
"So that [grey coach purse] was on sale for $119 and then half off that, so it was $50 or $60. Regular price was $148 so it was about a third," Shehan, a shopper at the outlet mall, said.
Not only did she buy some purses and jewelry, but she also bought a Coach rain coat she'd been eyeing at the Galleria.
"This was $398, but I paid $190 something," Shehan said.
Twin Cities Premium Outlets has the same owners at the outlet mall in Albertville.
People who live in Eagan told WCCO they're looking forward to shopping at a mall that is close to home and less congested than nearby Mall of America.
"Mall of America is always so crowded and you can't find space to park," shopper Claudette Roehroch said. "Whereas here I didn't have problem finding a space for parking."
Opening day is featuring some special deals and giveaways, but many of them are continuing through Saturday.
You can register near the stage in the middle of the mall for prizes, and there are many in-store events as well that include winning gift cards.
Those Nike sneakers Nico had are regularly priced between $130 and $250 each.
His dad told me bought them for between $80 and $130 dollars each.
