New Minn. Section Opens Of North Country Trail
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (AP) -- The Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge in northwestern Minnesota is celebrating the opening of a new section of the North Country National Scenic Trail.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service marked the occasion with a two-day celebration this past weekend that welcomed hikers to learn more about the trail through guided walks, lectures and photo sessions.
The 4,600-mile North Country National Scenic Trail journeys from the Adirondack Mountains of New York to the plains of North Dakota.
The Fish and Wildlife Service says Volunteers from the Laurentian Lakes Chapter of the North Country Trail Association and money from a state Legacy Fund trail grant made the new 21-mile segment in Becker County a reality, along with help from the National Park Service, which administers the trail.
