Friends, Strangers Continue Search For Kira Trevino
ROSEMOUNT, Minn. (WCCO) -- A couple from Rosemount, a woman who watches the news and a father of three boys all gathered with two dozen other strangers in Rosemount Saturday afternoon to search for missing St. Paul woman Kira Trevino.
Volunteer searcher Heather Leopold says she signed up because she hopes someone else would do the same for her.
"If my body was missing, I hope people would step up and help," Leopold said.
Kira Trevino was reported missing by her husband, Jeff Trevino, on Feb. 24. Prosecutors later charged him with her death after police found "copious amounts" of blood in their home. Her body has not yet been found.
So Abbie Slotzky and Jodie Leko organized searches this weekend in the Twin Cities area. Neither knew Kira and neither have done anything like this before. They started a Facebook page for people to find information.

They didn't choose Lower Spring Lake Reserve for any particular reason - expect that it's within a 100-mile radius of the Trevino's home. On Sunday, another group of volunteers will be looking at Lilydale Regional Park in St. Paul. Kira's close friends and family will join them.
Nikki Engel, a longtime friend of Kira's, started a blog earlier this week to show a map of all the places that have been searched. She hopes to update it every two to three days.
"Just having her be able to come home, that's such a huge piece of the closure in and of itself," Engel said.
Matt Evans and Diane Fernandez, friends of both Jeff and Kira, drove in from Becker for the search. They say true closure seems far away.
"Angry, sad, disappointed, shocked," Evans said. "I have a new emotion every second."
But they, like each of the other searchers, say they're hopeful for to find her body, a clue or simply more attention to get others involved.
"If I wasn't hopeful, I would be here," Leko said.
Sunday's search will begin at noon and will take place at Lilydale Regional Park at 950 Lilydale Road in St. Paul.
