New Coon Rapids Mosque Is The First Of Its Kind In Minnesota
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community now has its first mosque in Minnesota. Community members gathered to inaugurate the new mosque Saturday in Coon Rapids.
Congressman Keith Ellison delivered the keynote address. He says he's happy members of this group have a place to worship.
"It's a great thing," Rep. Ellison said. "It just goes to show that Minnesota is a wonderfully diverse community -- a lot to offer. People from all over the world live here and make it a better place."
Sadia Gikineh, a local member of the Ahmadi community in Minnetonka, says she's happy her faith final has their own house of prayer, close to home.
"We have our own place," she said. "It's big. It's really close to the community where I live, so I'm very proud of this place. We're grateful."
This mosque will also hold various community events, including spiritual training classes for children during the weekend.
