New App Brings Snow Plow To Your Home On Demand
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The overnight snowfall probably meant you had some shoveling to do -- but now, there's an app that can help you with that.
The smartphone app Plowz & Mowz allows users to get a snow plow driver on demand with just a few taps of a button.
The app's not just easy for users -- it makes business easy for snow plow drivers, too. Just like Uber drivers can sign up to taxi customers across the city, snow plow drivers can sign up to take care of your winter work.
The first snowfall of winter hit the metro overnight causing spinouts and slick roads all over the state. It was a tough morning for commuters, but a welcome relief for snow plow drivers.
"It was definitely a nice Christmas present," said Michael Hefferan, owner of the plowing company Imperial Seal. "We do rely on the snow in the wintertime to keep us going until the summer."
Hefferan's customers often find him through the app, where customers type in their zip code, some information about their driveway, and people like Hefferan take care of it.
"It's basically an Uber app for snow plowing and lawn care," Hefferan said.
The app started with just a handful of plows in 2014. Today, there are more than 3,000 all over the country.
"It's a nice supplement to when you're out plowing and you're out of properties to plow," Hefferan said. "It's also good for you name."
But whether you hire someone to plow your driveway or you take care of it yourself, there is plenty more time for the work of winter ahead.
That app available for both Apple and Android phones. It's free to download, though of course the plow service isn't. Plowing starts at $35, and goes up depending on how long it takes the plow driver to finish.
