Multi-Vehicle Accident Shuts Down I-94 In Minneapolis
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – As if the snow, ice and slick conditions weren't bothersome enough, a multi-vehicle crash in Minneapolis Wednesday morning created all sorts of problems and headaches for commuters.
The crash happened at about 6 a.m. on westbound I-94 at 7th Street, just north of I-394. Initial reports indicated that as many as 10 cars were involved. The Minnesota Department of Transportation said at least three cars and a snow plow were involved in the crash. Lt. Eric Roeske with the Minnesota State Patrol reported on Twitter that there were no serious injuries related to the crash, but all westbound lanes of I-94 had to be closed as emergency crews responded.
Authorities were able to open one lane to traffic, but a slow commute ensued for motorists who already have thin patience after slow morning drives on Monday and Tuesday after a foot or more of snow came to the Twin Cities on Sunday.
It's another reminder that road conditions remain icy and slippery from last weekend's snow storm. Authorities said one lane of westbound I-94 at the scene is open to traffic, but it will surely delay the morning commute for several motorists.
