MSU-Mankato Names Keen Interim Football Coach
MANKATO, Minn. (WCCO) – Minnesota State University-Mankato officials announced Monday that Aaron Keen, who led the football team to a 13-1 record, has been named the interim head coach for the Mavericks.
School officials said Keen 's appointment will take effect on Wednesday and continue through the end of the school year. Officials within the athletic department said a national search is planned to find a permanent head coach. The previous head coach, Todd Hoffner, was suspended before the season started after allegations of child pornography from videos that were found on a school issued cell phone.
Hoffner was later cleared of all charges and his suspension was lifted after the football season, but he was reassigned to the role of assistant athletic director. Hoffner still wants his head coaching job back.
School officials said Keen will earn more than $50,000 for the remainder of the year. The Mavericks, under Keen's leadership, won the NSIC title after finishing the regular season 11-0. Their 13-1 year was the best in school history as they advanced to the NCAA Division II semifinals.
Officials did not specify a timeline for when they hope to name a permanent head coach.
