According to MSP officials, shortly before 12:30 p.m. security received a call that an unattended bag had been left at a United Airlines ticket counter.
Security tested the bag and it came back positive for explosive materials. The city of Bloomington bomb squad was called in to help. However, officials said no explosives were found.
"Our bomb squad responded and x-rayed the unattended bag which turned up clear. My bomb commander thought a dog had initially alerted on the package. Regardless it checked OK," Bloomington Police Deputy Chief Mike Hartley said.
Officials believe the bag was just left by mistake as it was found on a scale and included "normal things a person would travel with."
The scene was declared clear just before 2:30 p.m.
Airport officials warned passengers to be prepared for long lines and possible delays.
