MSP Is Getting Back To Normal

By Reg Chapman, WCCO-TV

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Things are getting back to normal at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) after more than a foot of snow caused many flights to be delayed or canceled.

This morning, both runways were back up and running, cutting into delays that were running more than an hour behind.

From her post at the Currency Exchange Window, Hortence Garnett saw how weather can affect even the most seasoned travelers.

She started her shift at 7 a.m.

"It was a mad house," Garnett said. "It was people everywhere trying to get behind security, trying to check in bags. Really chaotic."

Hours later, she said people took the delays and cancellations in stride.

"They get a little put back, but nobody has tried to come over the counter," Garnett said.

This morning, 60 flights leaving MSP were canceled and more than 100 flights coming into the airport did not make it because of the storm.

Many people found themselves glued to the departure and arrivals board checking to see if and when they could get out.

WCCO-TV's Mark Rosen was one of those passengers delayed.

He should have left at 7:30 a.m. for Ft. Meyers, Fla., to cover Twins Spring training.

Instead, he ate a salad and waited for the next flight to leave.

"You kind of have to roll with it -that's what we do," Rosen said. "I'm going to Florida, what am I going to complain about."

Airport officials said that since the snow has slowed they are not expecting any more cancellations.

If you are scheduled to fly out of MSP today call ahead to check the status of your flight.
