Mpls Shooting Suspect Arrested In Detroit
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 24-year-old man who fled Minnesota after being connected with a Minneapolis shooting was arrested Friday in Detroit, Mich., according to the Minneapolis FBI.
Dion Darnell Toney was wanted for an outstanding warrant on one count of first-degree assault and one count of drive-by shooting in connection with an April 3, 2010 incident.
Toney is accused shooting another man in the early morning hours of that day in the area of 10th Street and Portland Avenue South in Minneapolis. Toney was allegedly a passenger in another car when he shot at a man in a black SUV. The two had been in an argument over a woman, according to the FBI.
The victim was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with serious injuries.
Toney fled Minnesota because of the charges against him. Local authorities recently received information that he was staying in a hotel in Detroit. He was seen leaving the hotel Friday morning and was arrested by authorities in Detroit, who had been doing surveillance of the hotel.
Toney is being held in the Wayne County Jail in Michigan and will soon be extradited to Minnesota to face those charges in Hennepin County Court.
