Mpls. Police: 2 Arrested After Fleeing, Hitting Vehicle & Causing Gas Leak
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minneapolis police say two suspects are in custody after fleeing police and causing a gas leak Thursday night.
According to police, officers were responding to a ShotSpotter activation when they observed a vehicle being driven in a reckless manner. When officers turned on their emergency lights, the suspect vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.
The suspect vehicle, while fleeing, was involved in a property damage crash with a vehicle but continued to speed away. A few blocks away, the car lost control and sheared off a gas meter at ground level, which caused a gas leak.
The two suspects then fled, but were apprehended by officers with help from a K-9 unit. A gun was also recovered.
The police department commended the officers on Facebook, saying they did an "incredible job evacuating about 17 residents in the area due to the gas leak, managing multiple scene (original shots call, the PD crash, and the crash with the gas leak), and booking two into jail!"
No further details have been released.
