Mpls. Pastry Chef's Kitchen Mistake Leads To 'Bee Free Honee'
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A local business woman is turning a kitchen mistake into big business.
It also started when pastry chef Katie Sanchez, who works D'Amico Cucina in Minneapolis, tried to make apple jelly without reading the directions.
Sanchez says she canned it, went to check on it the next morning, and discovered her concoction was very "honey-esque."
With the news she had been hearing about the decline in the bee population, Sanchez decided to make something of her mistake, and launched her company, "Bee Free Honee," a short time later.
The product, which tastes like honey, but is made from apples and lemon juice, is now in most Whole Foods stores and will even be included in next year's Oscars' swag bags for celebrities.
