Mpls. 'Miracle Baby' Who Survived 11-Story Fall Returns Home
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minneapolis toddler who got national attention after falling 11 stories from an apartment building, and surviving, is back home with his family.
It was on May 11, Mother's Day, at the Riverside Plaza apartments in Minneapolis when 15-month-old Musa Dayib slipped through a 5.5 inch slit on the family's balcony.
Seconds after the fall, the boy's 3-year-old sister ran to tell their father, who was in another room, that her baby brother had fallen.
Neighbors rushed to the child's aid and were happy to see Musa still crying.
The toddler had fallen on a thin patch of mulch only a few feet from a slab of concrete.
Musa was rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center. He had fractured his ribs, backbone, arms and skull. But to the amazement of doctors he didn't have any serious head injuries.
"It's unbelievable," Abdirizak Bihi, a friend and family spokesman, said. "As the family said and everyone in the community is saying it's an act of God."
Last Friday, Musa was released from the hospital and came home with both arms in casts.
"He's doing great. And he's feeling wonderful and wants to get up," Bihi said. "He just wants to play."
The family is trying to move to a lower level apartment.
They're also asking property owners to install child proof latches on all the balcony doors in the entire complex.
It's believed Musa's sister opened the door before the fall.
