Mpls Man Seeks To Get Back Into The NBA
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minnesota man is hoping to play again for the Timberwolves after playing basketball at the University of Minnesota and overseas.
John Thomas has played basketball for many years, but he has an obstacle to overcome: his age. He is nearing his mid 30s and knows that NBA coaches are looking for younger players.
"It's a business, it's a numbers game," Thomas said. "I realize they look at guys that are younger; it doesn't affect me. I still now I can contribute."
Thomas grew up in Minneapolis and gained attention for his basketball skills while playing at Roosevelt High School.
At the University of Minnesota, he flourished and played during a Final Four season. He had talent, but he didn't realize he was first-round draft material until his coach told him.
"It wasn't until after I graduated, that's when coach said, 'It's time to be a professional now," Thomas said.
He enjoyed playing a stint with the Timberwolves and he is looking to get back in with the hometown team.
