Mpls. City Council Member Under Fire For Posting Constituents' Personal Info
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minneapolis City Council member says she's receiving threats after some say she tried to publicly shame constituents who disapproved of her involvement with Black Lives Matter.
City Councilmember Alondra Cano, representing the 9th Ward, has been a vocal supporter of the group and attended Wednesday's protest at Mall of America.
The trouble came when Cano posted several disapproving messages from her constituents, which included personal information like their email addresses, home addresses and phone numbers.
One person whose information was posted told WCCO he feels the act breaches public trust, though it may not be illegal, and sends the message that the council member will publicly shame you if you write her in disagreement.
Cano has since deleted the tweets and didn't return our requests for an interview. She did post on Facebook about threats she says she's received:
"Hi family, I hope to write more soon, for now please know I am doing good, mostly busy today taking safety precautions because of the threats coming my way. I will keep building justice and hope with your continued love and support. Merry Christmas to all who celebrate it and a peaceful winter break."
