Mother's Day Do's And Don'ts
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Mother's Day is this Sunday, and time is running out if you haven't found something special for your mom.
If you still haven't found that perfect gift for her, Chris Stanford ran down some of the gift-giving Do's and Don'ts.
Beth Perro-Jarvis and Mary Van Note from Ginger Consulting were on hand to help with tips. They took a survey of hundreds of mothers to find out exactly what they want for their special day.
The most common response they received was that mothers are hoping to be "Queen for a Day" on Mother's Day.
"They want you to really put some muscle into it, do some great planning," said Perro-Jarvis. "Think of how my day can unfold so that I can have a great day from start to finish."
Perro-Jarvis said that, even though many presume mothers would like to be put up for a full day in a salon, many actually would rather spend quality time with their families.
Van Note said that the next most common answer from mothers about what they'd like is a "significant gift," something they wouldn't buy for themselves.
That means designer handbags, technological toys like tablet computers, or the eternal standby: something that sparkles.
A third, more practical gift idea that mother said they appreciate is simply some help around the house.
By some measure, the biggest no-no that emerged from the survey was convenience store chocolates and anonymous cards.
"Running out at the last minute just makes her feel bad," said Van Note.
