Mother Of Peterson's Son Hopes NFL Lets Him Play

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - The mother of the boy Adrian Peterson was charged with abusing says she hopes the NFL won't further punish him.

The Vikings running back pleaded no contest Tuesday to hurting one of his sons in Texas last spring.

Police and doctors said Peterson had whipped the boy with a stick, causing numerous cuts and bruises.

As part of his plea deal, the running back has to pay a fine and do community service.

The boy's mother's attorney said in a statement Wednesday that agrees with that decision.

She "knows that Mr. Peterson loves their son very much and has confidence that he will remain an involved parent with their son throughout his life," the statement says.

The Vikings benched Peterson while his court case played out.

It's unclear what the team and the NFL plan to do next.
