Most Road Work Done, But Labor Day Travel Still Tricky
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - If you have travel plans for Labor Day weekend, be prepared for a little traffic.
MnDOT Director of Communications Kevin Gutknecht says there won't be any construction going on, but the road work areas will still mean road closures and slower speed limits.
"There are a number of work zones that folks may encounter during their holiday weekend travel," Gutknecht said. "Work zones can still be dangerous places, so folks should slow down, take their time and proceed cautiously."
The expected problem areas are work zones on I-35 south of Duluth, Highway 78 from Battle Lake north to Ottertail Lake and I-35 south of the Twin Cities.
Still, MnDOT says the major projects are over. If you are going to be heading out of town for the holiday weekend, they suggest checking the projects and detours online before you hit the road.
"I would also suggest to folks that if there's a way that you can leave a little earlier or maybe leave a little bit later, that's not a bad idea either - but check ahead of time," Gutknecht said.
