More Than 240 Crashes Reported Following Winter Storm
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- While Tuesday's evening's commute was quite a bit easier than Monday's, Minnesota's winter storm resulted in hundreds of crashes so far.
Since 1 p.m. Monday, Minnesota State Patrol says there were more than 350 crashes statewide, luckily with no serious injuries or fatal accidents.
"Actually, it hasn't been our busiest snowstorm," Minnesota State Patrol Lt. Tiffani Nielson said. "The south got more of the treacherous conditions than the metro."
In one instance, part of Interstate 494 in Bloomington needed to be shut down Tuesday morning because of a three-vehicle crash – two of the vehicles being semis. One driver was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center with significant, but non-life threatening injuries.
Overnight, Minneapolis' public works scheduled back-to-back 12-hour shifts for 38 plow drivers. Tuesday's shift has about 45 crew members out on the streets, in addition to workers who plow trails and bike lanes.
And that will continue into the night, as both Minneapolis and St. Paul declared snow emergencies Tuesday morning.

Highway Patrol says don't get too comfortable here. Roads may be mostly clear, but they are slick. Lt. Nielson says tomorrow, you should be able to cruise as usual.
