More Northstar Delays, 'Green' LRT Enters Training Stage
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- If you rely on the Northstar Commuter Rail from Big Lake to Minneapolis, prepare for delays through the rest of the week.
On Monday, the rail was running so late that Metro Transit put out the word to riders, recommending they try to find another way to work.
The problem is not weather-related, as it turns out. The problem is due to major freight rail traffic congestion. That's because Northstar shares the track with Amtrak.
The track is owned by Burlington Northern Sante Fe. BNSF officials say it will be several days before the fix.
Meanwhile, there will be significant new movement along Metro Transit's Green light rail line, formerly referred to as the Central Corridor line. About 100 operators started their training Monday on the new track between St. Paul and Minneapolis.
Metro Transit will move into its regular service schedule in April prior to its opening on June 14.
