Anoka County Exec Enters Race For Bachmann Seat
HAM LAKE, Minn. (AP) -- As a second Republican enters the race for the open seat in Minnesota's 6th Congressional District, a local officeholder says he's weighing a run as a Democrat.
Anoka County Commissioner Rhonda Sivarajah said Wednesday she wants the seat being vacated by Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann. Meanwhile, Sartell Mayor Joe Perske says he's been encouraged to get in.
The party has strong Republican leanings. Bachmann isn't seeking a fifth term.
Sivarajah has served as a county commissioner since 2003 and has spent the last two years as its chairwoman. She joins former Rep. Tom Emmer in competing for the GOP nod.
Perske says he considers himself a "zealous moderate" but would run for the Democratic nomination. He would be vying for that ballot slot against Circle Pines environmental activist Judy Adams.
