Moorhead Sandbag Factory Opens This Week
MOORHEAD, Minn. (WCCO) -- The Sandbag Factory in Moorhead opens Tuesday with these new modified spider sandbagging machines.
Moorhead is going to pay people to fill the sandbags this year because it will be safer and faster.
"We don't know how intense the flood fight is going to be and one of the key things that burns a lot of time is getting the sandbags created," said Moorhead Mayor Mark Voxland. "This is going to help us make 9,000 to 10,000 an hour out of two machines. We'll get a million sandbags made basically in 10 about days."
The city will pay around $160,000 for the 10 days of labor. But they still need volunteers to lift the sandbags onto pallets.
