Moorhead Raises Sandbag Goal To 1.5 Million
MOORHEAD, Minn. (AP) -- The city of Moorhead has raised the number of sandbags it wants to have ready in case of spring flooding. It's now aiming for 1.5 million sandbags, up from a previous goal of 1 million.
The city has asked for volunteer to help with sandbags this weekend. The sandbag effort continues from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the city Sandbag Operations Center.
City manager Michael Redlinger says the city is more than halfway to its goal. He says it will take about another week to finish filling sandbags, and then a week after that to get them all put in place. He has been told to expect the river to begin rising around early April.
