Mom Charged With Beating Daughter At School
ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- A South St. Paul mother has been charged for allegedly beating her daughter in full view of her classmates and teacher.
According to the criminal complaint, the assault happened on June 14, the last day of the school year at the St. Paul elementary school where the assault was reported.
The criminal complaint alleges 26-year-old Socorro Eaton dropped off her 8-year-old daughter late that morning.
She had with her a bag of art supplies, which she asked the girl's teacher whether they still needed. The teacher replied they did not because it was the last day of school.
The teacher told police she then saw Eaton strike her daughter with a closed fist, swearing and calling her a "liar."
The girl ran from the classroom and her mother yelled at her to come back, threatening "I will beat you in front of the class," according to the complaint.
The girl told investigators she has been beaten multiple times by her mother, sometimes with a belt. She told police, in one instance, she was beaten after her brother messed up their bedroom. Police observed multiple welts on the girl's back.
Eaton told police she beat her daughter because "she lied." She was arrested and charged with gross misdemeanor malicious punishment of a child.
She told police she didn't know why she was being arrested because she had beat her before and hadn't been arrested. She said that she intended to "beat her a** good" when she was released for getting her arrested.
