MOA Store Helps You Give While Holiday Shopping
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- With the season of giving almost here, many of us will be shopping for our loved ones while also supporting our favorite charities.
A new store at the Mall of America allows you to do both at the same time.
The GreaterGood.com store opened in May. When shoppers make a purchase, a portion of the proceeds goes to one of ten charities of their choice.
An online charitable retailer since 1999, their Mall of America location is the first brick-and-mortar store.
Nicky Anderson's purchases at the store will reach more than just her friends and family.
"If you find something you like, you know that it's going to that cause," Brainerd resident Nicky Anderson said.
Some of the proceeds from Anderson's purchase will go to a charity of her choosing. For her, that's autism funding.
"I have a child with autism so we came to the autism site area here. My daughter is buying a necklace, and my aunt's buying a … T-shirt and it's really cool that it will go to that cause," Anderson said.
The store is separated into 10 sections, each representing a different charity. It includes breast cancer research, animal rescue, hunger relief, Alzheimer's disease funding and even rainforest preservation.
Each section is filled with an assortment of different products like toys, T-shirts, jewelry and more.
"When you purchase an item within that area, a portion of the sale goes to benefit that area," GreaterGoods.com's Rena Rasmussen said.
The proceeds are not always monetary. In the animal rescue site, a T-shirt could become a food donation to an animal shelter. In the Creative KidStuff section, every toy purchased translates into a toy donated to a kid in need.
"It's awesome to have different sites throughout here as well so you can find what's important to you," Anderson said.
The store also has a section where shoppers can donate directly to at least 20 more charities.
