Mall Of America Reveals New Pop-Up Shop 'Debut'

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Mall of America has been opening a new store as often as every few days in recent months.

Mall officials told WCCO a lot is changing leading up to the mall's eventual plan to double in size over the next decade or so.

A new pop-up shop concept called "Debut" will open for shoppers on Wednesday. The 2,500-square-foot store features nine brands of items from local and international artists and designers.

The goal is to give people more access to items they would normally have to get online or in other cities.

The shop will change vendors and themes every six months.

Liz McLay, senior vice president of leasing for MOA, says there will be many different price points for shopper to choose from.

The brands include Woolrich, Askov Finlayson, Laurel Way by Pam Mondale, BillyKirk, West Elm LOCAL, Todd Snyder Plus Champion, Pomegranate, Shepherd of Sweden and Fisher + Baker.

"Shopping is an emotional experience and it's not until you feel the weave of the fabric or you see a beautiful bracelet lay across your wrist that you can make a connection with that brand," McLay said.

Zara will open a store at MOA on Wednesday as well.

MOA has 40 million visitors per year. The megamall's spokesperson says four in 10 of those visitors are tourists.
