MnDOT Closures Could Mean Another Weekend Headache
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Another summer weekend means another set of closures as the Minnesota Department of Transportation continues to work on Twin Cities roads.
At least three major roadways in the area see significant delays during the weekend.
A stretch of eastbound Interstate 694 will be closed as crews work to begin reconstructing new lanes for the highway. MnDOT crews recently worked on the westbound lanes.
The closer will last from 10 p.m. Friday until morning rush hour on Monday, and will affect the stretch between Interstate 35W and Lexington Avenue.
Also, Interstate 494 will be closed between Interstate 35W and Highway 100 as part of an improvement project at Xerxes Avenue.
Crews will be working to remove the current bridge over I-494. The highway will be closed starting at 9 p.m. Friday.
MnDOT says construction of the new Xerxes Avenue Bridge will extend until November, go on hiatus during winter and then resume next April.
MnDOT says motorists can also expect to see delays at the interchange between Highway 62 and Highway 100 in Edina as three ramps in the area are closed to traffic.
The ramps from southbound Highway 100 to westbound Highway 62, from eastbound Highway 62 to southbound Highway 100, and from westbound Highway 62 to northbound Highway 100 will all be closed beginning at 8 p.m. Friday.
They should remain closed throughout the weekend as crews continue working to resurface Highway 62.
