MN Woman Defeats Brain Injury, Completes 1,300-Mile Run
CHANHASSEN, Minn. (WCCO) -- A Minnesota woman finished a 1,300-mile run tonight.
It started in April, when Allyson Loisel-Murray left Galveston, Texas and wrapped up Thursday night in Chanhassen.
All along the way, Murray raised awareness for traumatic brain injuries and stroke prevention.
Back in 2008, Murray nearly died in a car accident just before her qualifying race for the 2008 Boston Marathon.
She had a traumatic brain injury and was given a 5 percent chance of surviving.
Despite all that, she beat the odds, eventually telling her doctor about her plans to run across the country.
"He said, 'You're the first person to ever do this,'" she recalled. "'I don't have record of anyone else in your situation -- you need to make sure you make it home.'"
So Murray ran just five days a week and took weekends off.
