MN Snowmobiler Dug Out Of MT Avalanche
BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — Officials in Montana's Park County say a 29-year-old Minnesota man was buried by an avalanche near Cooke City, but was quickly dug out by snowmobilers and skiers.
Sheriff M. Allan Lutes says Joe Enole of Hanover, Minn., had ridden up an avalanche chute in the Lulu Pass area north of Cooke City Monday and was headed back down the slope when the avalanche hit him from behind.
The Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center says Enole's arm was sticking out of the snow and nearby skiers and snowmobilers dug him out within 30 seconds. He was not injured.
Lutes says Enole was snowmobiling with five friends, and all had the proper avalanche gear with them.
The GNFAC says the avalanche danger on wind-loaded slopes in the Cooke City area remains high.
