MN Making Itself A Name In Cheese
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Wisconsin may be known for cheese, but Minnesota has a cheese-making community as well.
And this weekend, you can taste it for yourself at the International Bazaar on the Minnesota State Fair Grounds on Sunday, all part of the first Minnesota Cheese Fest. Tickets are $15 at the door.
Helping give Minnesota a name in the industry is Jodi Ohlsen Read and her family as they make cheese from 300 sheep outside of Northfield, Minn.
"People are a little surprised when they find out there are pockets of cheesemakers all over Minnesota," she said.
Ohlsen hopes that by bringing Minnesota cheesemakers together on Sunday, people who live here will grow to appreciate the delicious cheese being made here.
"It's just a little slower catching on here," she said. "But it's really growing."
