Miracles Of Mitch: Chanhassen School Delivers Food, Honors Boy
CHANHASSEN (WCCO) -- Hundreds of students and faculty members from an elementary school are walking in memory of a special little boy named Mitch.
A group of about 600 students from Chanhassen elementary were on a mission Wednesday morning. They walked from their school to the Miracles of Mitch Foundation to deliver food for a pantry.
The foundation is named after Mitch Chepokas, a student at Chanhassen Elementary who lost his battle to bone cancer in 2003. He was 9 years old.
Staff helped the students carry their dry goods to the foundation, which will go to Mitch's Pantry at the University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital.
Miracles of Mitch Foundation keeps two pantries stocked with food at the hospital Children's so parents don't need to leave their sick children in order to eat.
The students walk in his honor wearing his favorite color, orange, delivering enough food to fill the pantry that they had collected over six weeks.
Even when Mitch was sick before he died, he was very positive and shared that with other kids who had cancer -- even giving them his savings.
Miracles of Mitch Foundation coordinators say events like this help keep his giving spirit alive and bring encouragement for other cancer patients.
