Minnetonka High School Seniors Spend Final Days Giving Back
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- While many high school seniors will be spending their last days of school taking it easy, seniors at Minnetonka High School have a different plan.
The entire senior class will be spending their final hours of high school helping others. The students camped out in the rain for a chance to volunteer.
It's a busy time for high school seniors with finals coming up, commencement ceremonies and dozens of graduation parties to go to. But the students lined up, many overnight, outside Minnetonka High School for the chance to volunteer in their final days as a high schooler.
It is not a requirement for any student to volunteer before they graduate, it's simply something they want to do. Anna, a Minnetonka senior who is headed to Nebraska, said it's a good opportunity to give back to the community and a good way to finish the senior year. It's a good way to spend your final days with your friends and give back at the same time, she said.
Minnetonka will have more than 700 graduating seniors and there's more than 900 volunteering opportunities through the program the high school is offering. Many students will be going back to their old elementary schools to give back.
The event at Minnetonka is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
