Minnetonka Girls' Hockey Wins Class 2A State Title
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Amy Peterson's goal with 39.7 seconds remaining lifted Minnetonka to a thrilling 3-2 win over Edina on Saturday in the Class 2A girl's hockey state championship game.
Peterson gathered in a loose puck in front of the net, turned to face Hornets goaltender Maddie Dahl, and beat her with a wrist shot to the glove side. It was the top-seeded Skippers first-ever trip to the state tournament.
The game got off to a rollicking start, with both teams scoring twice in the first period.
Minnetonka (29-1-1) broke out on top of a power play goal by Peterson. Edina struck back with goals 25 seconds apart by Christine Brauer and Lizzie Otten. Courtney McDougal tied it for the Skippers.
Julie Friend made 20 saves for the Skippers. Dahl stopped 21 shots.
