Minnesota's Welch Could Play 'A Little' In Finale
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota point guard Julian Welch could play some in the final regular season game against Nebraska.
Gophers coach Tubby Smith said Friday that Welch hasn't practiced all week because of an injury to his hip flexor muscle that kept him out of action Tuesday at Wisconsin and relegated him to 11 minutes in a reserve role the previous game against Indiana. But Smith didn't rule out playing Welch "a little" Saturday.
Welch and power forward Rodney Williams are the only active players averaging 10 points or more per game. Smith said an MRI test on Welch's hip revealed no damage but that he has been bothered by a pulled groin muscle for much of the season as well. The junior also had a sprained ankle earlier.
