Minnesota's Rau Suspended For Boarding Denver Star
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Minnesota freshman forward Kyle Rau has been suspended for one game for a late hit on Denver's sophomore star Jason Zucker.
The Western Collegiate Hockey Association announced before Saturday's game between the Gophers and the Pioneers that Rau would sit out for his hit from behind in Friday's game. The collision sent Zucker into the boards and out of action with an upper-body injury. The hit came after Zucker had given up the puck.
Rau was given a five-minute major penalty for boarding and a 10-minute game misconduct.
Rau and Zucker were teammates on the U.S. national team for the world junior tournament.
Zucker is also a Minnesota Wild prospect, drafted by the NHL club in the second round in 2010.
