Minnesota's 2016 Caucuses To Be Held In March
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota's Democratic and Republican parties have scheduled next year's precinct caucuses for March 1, which is when party activists will be able to cast their 2016 presidential preference votes.
The parties jointly informed the Minnesota secretary of state of their plans Monday.
Republican Party Chairman Keith Downey said shifting the caucuses from their traditional February window is meant to fit Minnesota in line with national party rules for primaries and caucus timing.
Minnesota holds nonbinding preference polls and elects convention delegates at state conventions later in the year. But it's seen as a show of organizing strength among the campaigns.
Next year's race won't feature an incumbent because President Barack Obama has reached his two-term limit.
